Talia Bailes participated this summer in a program called SURF (Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship). She was working alongside Dr. John S. Hutton who is working on developing new, clinic-based emergent literacy screeners and she was able to assist by giving screeners in various CCHMC affiliated clinics to children mainly ages 3 to 5 years. Talia then had help from others in the RLDC, along with Dr. Hutton’s mentorship, to analyze some of the data collected and construct a poster for the final poster session as a part of SURF. "It was an amazing experience and a wonderful opportunity being able to have such a supportive and thoughtful mentor, Dr. Hutton, as well as work alongside those in the RLDC. The research and outreach the RLDC does is inspiring to be around."
